With the purchase of the Data Recovery Warranty, Bytes Back Data Recovery will, for the period of the manufacturer's original warranty, perform any necessary data recovery operations required to return the customer’s data to a working state. This service is limited to the hard drive purchased at the same time as the Data Recovery Warranty with a matching serial number.
Why Do Hard Drives Lose Data? Our Data Recovery engineers classify hard drive data loss in two categories:
- Logical failure -- the hard drive is in working order but some files or data cannot be accessed for logical reasons such as a lost partition or accidental reformatting; and
- Mechanical failure -- the hard drive is not functioning. The most common causes are head crashes and motor failures.

What is the procedure if my drive fails?
- CompSource will confirm your serial number matches the original purchased product.
- CompSource will confirm your hard drive is still under manufacture warranty.
- CompSource will send you a prepaid shipping box to mail it to Bytes Back.
- Byes Back will assess the situation and may require a purchase of parts in order to assist in data recovery. Note - many times this is not needed
- Bytes Back will recover your data and ship the drive and backup back to you
Data Recovery operations will not be covered in the case of obvious accidental or abusive damage. A complete data recovery is not possible in every situation. If data recovery is not possible, Bytes Back Data Recovery will not refund the original purchase price of the Data Recovery Warranty.
