The good: Three HDMI inputs; excellent sound quality for a sound bar home theater system; no AV receiver required; capable of switching between six devices.

The bad: IR receiver on the subwoofer limits its placement options; subwoofer isn't wireless; cluttered remote.

The bottom line: Sony's HT-CT150 sound bar home theater system sounds great and is way ahead of the competition with its three HDMI inputs; however, its IR receiver limits the subwoofer's placement options.

You say you want a home theater system but those 5.1 channel and 7.1 channel systems seem too complicated, too expensive and just plain too much. For some people they seem like overkill. If you're one of them, the Sony HT-CT150 3.1 Channel Home Theater System might be exactly what you've been looking for.

A 3.1 system is simple. Think of a regular two speaker stereo system. Add a center speaker and a subwoofer and voila! You've got a 3.1 channel home theater that's easy to set up, easy on the pocketbook and a joy to use.

We don't think it gets any simpler than the CT150. It's a 3.1 channel system with only two main parts! The left, center and right speakers are all contained in a single sound bar that's just 31 1/2 inches (800 mm) wide. It will look great on your TV stand. With a little bit of additional hardware (not included) you can even hang it from the wall.

If you take a look at the Specifications tab you might think we've made a mistake at first. All of the inputs and outputs and sound processors are listed under the Subwoofer section. That's no mistake because that's where they're all located. The subwoofer not only puts out those deep bass tones, it's the brains of the operation.

It's got three HDMI inputs and an HDMI output. The HDMI Repeater function allows you to connect multiple devices via HDMI cables and easily switch between them keeping the HDMI signal intact on its way to your TV. Audio Return Channel (ARC) allows audio to be sent from your compatible TV to the system on the same HDMI cable that's sending high definition video and audio to your TV. That can eliminate one more cable from your setup.

The HDMI ports can also pass 3-D signals from a 3-D Blu-ray player or 3-D gaming system through to a 3-D compatible TV or projector. So you can start out very modestly and go all the way to 3-D without having to buy a new home theater. (You'll just need a 3-D compatible TV, 3-D glasses a 3-D compatible Blu-ray player or gaming console and 3-D programming. "Simple" gets a little complicated when you go 3-D.)

To enjoy 3-D you'll want to be sure to use high-speed HDMI cables. With high-speed cables you can also enjoy 1080p (in addition to 720p and 1080i high definition) and Deep Color (more than a billion colors!) on compatible TV sets.

You can also enjoy Blu-ray disc HD Audio. Most new Blu-ray players can output the latest high definition audio formats like Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio. When your player is connected to your CT150 via HDMI you'll experience audio truer to the way it was captured.

Then there are those touches that make a Sony a Sony. BRAVIA Sync is Sony's brand name for HDMI CEC, the industry standard that allows you to control multiple HDMI-connected devices from a single remote control. The subwoofer's Digital Media Port (DMP) allows you to connect an optional Sony adapter that enables you to plug in your iPod, Walkman or PC-based devices so you can enjoy your portable music through the system.

If you want great sound but you want to keep it simple and affordable, you want the Sony HT-CT150 3.1 Channel Home Theater System.

HDMI Repeater
Connect multiple devices via HDMI to your HTC150, easily switch between them, and then connect everything to your HDTV with just one HDMI cable.
Standby Pass-Through of Audio And Video
Conveniently access all your HDMI connected devices without having to power on the receiver. For instance, when it's late at night and you want to watch a Blu-ray disc and use the TV speakers, the system will accept the audio and video from your Blu-ray player and send it to the TV, even though the HTC150 is in standby mode. (In standby mode the HTC150 draws 0.3 Watts.)
3-D Pass-Through
Enjoy 3-D Blu-ray disc movies, video games and other 3-D content with compatible players and HDTVs.
Blu-ray Disc HD Audio
When you connect via HDMI a Blu-ray Disc player that can output the latest high definition audio formats, including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio you can experience sound closer to the way it was captured.
Audio Return Channel
Eliminate the need for extra cables connected to your TV. This feature allows audio to be sent from your compatible TV to your HTC150 through the same HDMI cable already being used to send audio and video to your TV.
BRAVIA Sync Capable
Conveniently operate and control all your HDMI connected BRAVIA Sync devices with one remote including: Blu-ray disc Players, BRAVIA HDTVs, home theater products, Handycam camcorders and Cyber-shot digital cameras.
Digital Media Port
Connect an optional Digital Media Port (DMP) adapter (sold separately) to your audio system and access music from your iPod, Walkman player or PC device.
General Information:

Complete your 3D home entertainment experience with simple, yet powerful surround sound. The HT-CT150 32" 3D sound bar home theater system features 3D compatibility and can also be turned into your entertainment hub by connecting multiple HD or 3D devices using a single HDMI cable per device (sold separately). In addition to the latest audio decoding technology, this beautifully sleek sound bar can be easily mounted directly to select BRAVIA TVs, hung on your wall, or placed separately on a shelf.

(oops) IR (infrared) is on woofer. To be clear..the woofer has to be positioned (free and clear) for the remote control to relay a signal to it?
    Question by ET
    11/30/20111
Infrared is line of site so you can't put this behind furniture or behind where you site, which with traditional subs you could.

As stated:"..IR...limits it's placement options". Please clarify it's limitations, what would limit it's placement, exactly? Examples... Thank you
Question by Define IR reciever placement
    11/26/20112
Typically a sub woofer can be placed anywhere in a room and hidden under a coffee table etc. Your ears cannot tell direction in that frequency. Because the IR is on the sub. you will have to consider that and have that placed in front of you for remote reasons. Not really a big deal, we just felt it needed to be known.

Would I be able to connect this to my computer? How would I do that?
    Question by Anna
    9/5/20111
Yes you would! Preferably you will do it digitally but it would require a good sound card that has either digital or optical out, if not you can purchase a mini din to RCA and connect it that way. If this sound difficult please contact our sales team for further assistance.

I have a 32 inch samsung lcd with 2 hdmi inputs. Im a little confused with the 3 hdmi inputs the sub has. If i have My direct tv with hdmi and my ps3 with hdmi how can i use the sound bar?
    Question by luciano
    8/11/20102
It basically has a HDMI Hub that allows for 3 HDMI inputs IN and 1 output. This is not required to use it is simply there for convenience.

You plug HDMI cables from the HDMI-out ports on your DirecTV box and your PS3 to 2 of the HDMI-in ports on the subwoofer. Then you plug another cable from the HDMI-out on the subwoofer to an HDMI-in on your TV. Voila! You can now switch back and forth depending on whether you're gaming or watching a flick. If you have a DVD player, you can plug that in too. You only need one cable out from the sub to the TV.

    Just what I wanted

Review: I knew what I was looking for, I did a bit of research, & this Sony bar set kept coming up. I knew that I didn't want all of the wires everywhere and I live in a mid-size home. (For me) This sound bar set is great with a nice simple connection.

Pros: Simple set-up, great sound, & it take-up little space

Cons: All of the damn remotes I have now....

    Great product

Review: This bugger just turned my condo living room into a quasi-home theater. It sits there like a crouching tiger with a delicious purring at low volumes but you also know that within a few milliseconds this tiger can unleash a hair raising roar whenever you want. The setup was really simple and the output is fantastic. I use the HDMI connectivity and it works flawlessly. During the initial setup, I had some hiccups but once I restarted the TV and the system, it was all good.

Pros: - Price - Sound quality - HDMI

    Cons: - Setup

    Sony HT-CT 150

Review: Set-up was easy, if you keep in mind that it becomes your entertainment center. All other HDMI devices go to it, then a single HDMI cable to your TV. The sound does fill the room nicely, and when the sub kicks in, wow. When I can afford to up-grade my Receiver, then will see.

Pros: Nice sound quality, without mounting on the wall. Looks good and does not distract from TV or TV Consul. I have a Sharp, Aquos Quatron TV and it handshakes well with the soundbar.

Cons: There is a delay in balancing the program sound & commercial sound. If the program has music forget it. Keep the remote close.

    SonyHT-CT150 2 Home theater

Review: I bought this unit to enhance my large screen tv, beacause they are notorious for poor sound quality. This unit sounds great it makes the t sound so much better.. I had a Sony surround sound previously, that i did not like at all and it cost three times as much. I was sceptical about buying another Sony, but followed the reviews on this one , so I gave it a chance. So far i HAVE BEEN IMPRESSED AND PLEASED WITH THE SOUND QUALITY of this unit. It is very easy to set-up and use.I didn't give it a five star because we thought my wife could play her Iphone through here but ther is no usb port.

Pros: Very easy to set-up and a quality sound

Cons: No usb port for mp3 or Iphone

    Sony htct150 Sound Bar

Review: It's ok, the bass is not that strong. It's better than than tv speakers. Im happy with it but wished it had more power. You have to mess with the settings to get the best sound. I can't notice the surround effect, there might be a little surround effect but your not going to hear things behind you.

Pros: 'Clarity, better than tv speakers.'

Cons: 'Bad control, huge sub with little bass. '

    Sony HT-CT150

Review: Set up took 5 minutes and the sound bar sounds and looks great. I have a Sony TV so it syncs to the TV without need for a second remote. My room size is 20' x 20' and it has plenty of power to fill the room with sound.

Pros: Sound, Looks, Ease of setup.Great Price! Fast shipping!!

Cons: Had to locate sound bar out at front edge of TV stand or I picked up ghosting. The manual said it could possibly cause picture interference if placed too close to TV. Not a real problem just something to keep in mind.

    SONY HT-CT-150

Review: I purchased the Sony HTCT-150 for use with an LG 50" TV. The sound bar sits on the base of the TV and almost looks like it is part of the TV. I could not believe the improvement over the TV's speakers.

Pros: Easy to hook up, sound bar fits nicely on the TV base. Great sound quality. Highly recommend!

Cons: Lacks the same output from Blu-Ray/DVD player as from the TV. You have to remember to turn the volume down when shutting it off or it will blast you when you turn it on.

    Great Soundbar!

Review: Got this for my 46" LCD. Looks really good and sounds great too. I had a Polk Audio IHT SurroundBar6000 but the wireless subwoofer was interferring with my wifi internet. The Polk soundbar sounded better than this but it also retails for $500. This soundbar is a good price and sounds good. Audio is crisp and clear.

Pros: 3.1 Price Sound Quality HDMI connections

Cons: Limited subwoofer placement Remote only controls Sony products

    Sony Soundbar Improves sound

Review: The sound from the system is good for the price! It isn't a thousand dollar system, but it certainly improves the audio from my TV and does well for CDs. The only audio output from my TV was digital coax and this fit that perfectly. I had tried a digital converter, but that didn't work for all channels, but this does.

Pros: Digital audio coax input, good blend of lows and highs.

    Cons: none so far.

    Very impressive

Review: I bought this unit because I didn't want to deal with running surround speaker wire. This product does a great job of fooling the listener into thinking there are speakers in the rear. At functional volume levels the entire system maintains it's control (I was concerned that the sub may bottom out or flap but this doesn't seem to be an issue). I love the fact that the sub module has lots of inputs and flexibility in how it can be installed. Like everyone else has pointed out, it would have been nice if the remote sensor were on the sound bar and not on the sub.

Pros: Easy To Setup, Clear Sound, Interfaces Well With TV, Good Remote
